I have this really dreamy pillow that I use exclus

I have this really dreamy pillow that I use exclusively as a weight over my face, and I pull the sheets up to my nose so I can breathe.

It's definitely a comfort thing, and it's the best.

Pillows are a funny thing for me though, I don't encourage people to use them, ever. Unless you're exclusively side lying, you should be flat on your back otherwise you're only causing yourself future harm.

Back onto sleep and rest. Mama, future mama, human reading this... If you need to rest, rest. Even if you can't sleep. If you're in a busy season? Slow down and rest. Just do it.

On my end, we're in a REALLY fussy phase and sleep's been so rough, so i take whatever moment I can to stop and rest, so I'm not falling asleep with my eyes open while rocking my sweet baby girl.

Boobs' out, diapers dry. We've patted your back, bounced you around. We've walked and bounced, cradled and sang. An hour of screaming even though all your needs have been met. You're not gassy, not constipated, not too hot and not too cold. You're well supported and here we are thinking wtf do we do?

Your nervous system is shot, so is mine. What's left to do?

First of all, I remain calm as long as I can, and I tend to talk to her and acknowledge her cries.

"Yes baby, I hear you baby.

Yes honey, I hear your cries.

Yeah baby, you're uncomfortable and I don't know why, but let's bounce!

Heeeeeeyyyyy, baby. I hear you...."

Things like that. Over and over and over again. Communicating with my baby whose only words are screams and cries. Communication.

What ends up working after we've tried everything?

Baby's head against my chest as my "hey's" become hums. Vibrations. Babies love vibration, it's healing, calming, and it can help regulate our nervous systems.

What's good for babies, is also helpful for you momma, or momma-to-be. If you're nervous system is shot, think about singing, humming, moving, dancing. Notice how I laughed at 15 seconds? I definitely wasn't laughing before, I can tell you that much.

Those loose tone vibrations activated your vagus nerve, relax your throat, they relax your cervix, too... Which can also help in birth. Did you know that?

Anywho... Point is, hang in there, let it go and flow through you.

Doesn't matter what stage of life you're in, take the damn nap.

Trying to conceive and feeling tired,? Nap.
Pregnant and feeling tired? Go nap.
Postpartum and didn't sleep all night? Go take the damn nap.
You're none of the above and you're tired? GO NAP!

And don't feel guilty about it, either.

Lie down, closer your eyes and rest.

Rest is productive, and you don't need to earn it.

I don't know about you, but I can be a very mean and grumpy person when I don't sleep, so you best believe I'm going to nap even if that means my older son sits in front of the tv while I do so.
